The Last of Us

I'm a huge fan of the exclusive to PlayStation 'The Last of Us and Last of Us 2' (TLOU) video games, after all, TLOU is the reason why I invested in a PlayStation console, it's a MUST play, that said, I was wary of the hype TLOU had garnered over the production months as traditionally adapting a video game into a movie or TV show has been nothing short of, disappointing. Thankfully, The Last of Us breaks this tradition.

It's 20 years after modern civilisation has been destroyed, Joel is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14 year old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a simple smuggling operation soon becomes a brutal, unforgiving post-apocalyptic traverse of the U.S. where both must learn to trust and depend upon each other for survival.

Unlike it's counterparts of the same genre, TLOU runs at a much slower pace, the emphasis placed squarely upon the developing relationship between the perfectly cast Pedro Pascal, (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and the emotional impact of the unfolding journey upon them, not the infected. Some may believe this pace a tad slow and yearn for more infected action, (there is plenty of action) but this is where TLOU creates it's niche in the current oversaturated Post-Apocalyptic 'Zombie' genre.

Although I know how the journey for Joel, Ellie and all of the folks they encounter along their apocalyptic adventure pans out, I'm hooked and thirsty for more.

The Last of Us is on Sky Atlantic with new episodes every Monday.
